Mr. Fisher attended Carnegie-Mellon University where he studied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. A long time champion of open systems, Fisher is widely recognized as the father of Public Protocols for Building Automation. He was a charter voting member of ASHRAE’s SPC135P and has been very active in the development of the BACnet Standard (ANSI/ASHRAE 135-1995, 135-2001 and 135-2004) since its inception, serving up until July 2000 as a voting member on the SSPC-135 standing committee where he remains an active participant.

Fisher has over 35 years experience in real-time software, human-interface design and distributed direct digital control systems. He has taught numerous courses about BACnet, Networking and Communications, ASHRAE’s “Introduction to BACnet,” and the ASHRAE Professional Development Seminars “Understanding and Specifying Basic BACnet Systems” and on Direct Digital Control.

Fisher is President of PolarSoft® Inc., a Pittsburgh-based software company that specializes in BACnet software development and consulting, and interactive marketing technology. Fisher’s company has been actively promoting BACnet, producing The BACnetCD for ASHRAE, along with other types of electronic publications and BACnet products.

Fisher is a co-founder of American Auto-Matrix, another Pittsburgh technology company. Fisher holds several patents for laboratory control systems and fiber-optic communications.
